DeKalb neighborhood hit by dozens of break-ins

ATLANTA -- Homeowners in a DeKalb County neighborhood say they fed up with the repeated robberies that have left them feeling like prisoners in their own homes.

"Everyone is on pins and needles worrying when they'll be next," said Seth Johnstone.

The Braeburn Circle neighborhood is located off Flat Shoals Road near East Atlanta.

According to DeKalb County Police Department statistics, the neighborhood has been victim to nearly two dozen burglaries, car break-ins and other crimes in just the past three months.

The near constant crime has taken its toll on residents. Joey and Jennifer Scialabba say they've started sleeping in shifts -- so someone's always awake, on alert -- keeping their house secure.

A spokesperson for the DeKalb County Police says the department has stepped up patrols in the area.

"You should feel safe in your home," Capt. A. Mears said. "Your home is your castle."
